Nigeria and Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is confident that the Super Eagles can secure victory over Libya in Friday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Softfootball reported that Onyedika recently missed out on Belgium’s Ebony Shoe Award, but the midfielder remains focused on his development at club level and his growing role with the Nigerian national team.

The Super Eagles currently lead Group D of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers with four points after two matches. Benin Republic are second with three points, Rwanda sit third with two points, while Libya are bottom of the group with one point.

Speaking from the Super Eagles camp at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene, Onyedika expressed confidence that Nigeria have the quality and mentality needed to claim maximum points from the double-header against Libya.

The Club Brugge midfielder believes the team must approach both matches with a winning mindset, although he admitted that Libya will not be easy opponents. He stressed that the Super Eagles understand the importance of the fixtures and are determined to strengthen their position in the qualification race.

Nigeria are also facing a difficult situation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The three-time African champions have picked up only three points from four matches and currently sit fifth in Group C.

Despite that poor start, Onyedika believes the Super Eagles are still in the race and must focus on winning their remaining matches while hoping other results work in their favour. He also noted that Nigeria cannot afford to miss the 2026 World Cup after failing to qualify for the last edition.

Onyedika also reflected on scoring his first international goal for Nigeria in the 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic. Although the result was disappointing, the midfielder described scoring for his country as a special moment.

During the summer transfer window, Onyedika was linked with several English Premier League clubs, but the 23-year-old said his focus remains on playing football and improving his career.
