The Netherlands delivered a powerful World Cup statement with a dominant 5-1 victory over Sweden, strengthening their status as genuine contenders for the tournament title, Softfootball reports.
Brian Brobbey was the star of the show, scoring twice inside the opening 17 minutes to give Ronald Koeman’s side a dream start. The striker, brought into the lineup to provide a stronger attacking presence, punished Sweden’s defence with his strength, movement and clinical finishing.
Brobbey opened the scoring after a brilliant low cross from Cody Gakpo before adding another goal following a dangerous delivery from Denzel Dumfries. The Netherlands continued their attacking dominance after the break, with Gakpo scoring twice to put the game beyond Sweden.
Substitute Crysencio Summerville made a major impact after coming on at halftime, helping create chances and later adding the fifth goal with an excellent solo finish. Sweden briefly threatened through Anthony Elanga, who scored after coming off the bench, but they were unable to mount a comeback.
Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak struggled to break through the Dutch defence, with goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen making important saves to deny Sweden. Despite having chances, Sweden were overwhelmed by the Netherlands’ pace, movement and attacking quality.

The victory puts the Netherlands in a strong position to finish top of Group F, while Sweden must respond in their final group match to keep their hopes alive having earlier overwhelmed Tunisia with a mix of clinical finishing and midfield dominance.
