Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle has spoken openly about why he continues to introduce new faces into the national team setup. Speaking to the media, Chelle explained that his original objective when he took the job was to qualify Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup, but the team fell short in the playoff final against Congo, largely due to fatigue.

Chelle pointed out that tiredness has been a recurring issue for Nigeria in big moments. He referenced the AFCON semifinal against Morocco, where the Super Eagles also lost because the players were exhausted.

Here is Chelle’s full statement:

The reality is that when I took this job, the objective was that we were supposed to qualify for the World Cup, but we lost in the final of the playoffs because we were tired.

And in the semifinal against Morocco at the AFCON, we lost the game because we were tired. So I needed to bring in some new players to change that situation.

It means if we reach the semifinal of the next AFCON and we’re tired, I can bring on players who make some difference.

Softfootball confirms that since his appointment, Eric Chelle has indeed brought several new players into the Super Eagles squad and they have all proven to be quality additions.

Among them are:

  • Benjamin Frederick
  • Tochukwu Nnadi
  • Femi Azeez
  • Chibuike Nwaiwu

These players have shown hunger, energy, and the ability to raise the team’s intensity — exactly what Chelle wants as he rebuilds the squad.
