Softfootball gathered that Coleman joined Everton on January 1, 2009, and eventually made his official first-team debut on 22 October 2009 in a UEFA Europa League match away against SL Benfica at the Estádio da Luz.

It was described as a real “baptism of fire,” as an injury-hit Everton side suffered a heavy 5–0 defeat, with Coleman forced to play completely out of position at left-back.

Despite the difficult beginning, Coleman went on to become one of Everton’s most respected captains and longest-serving modern legends.
