Nicolas Jackson is set to return to Chelsea in June after Bayern Munich decided not to trigger the €65 million buy option in his loan deal.
The update was confirmed by Bayern director Max Eberl, who made it clear that the club will not be making the move permanent. This decision aligns with earlier reports that Bayern were unlikely to activate the clause despite initially bringing Jackson in to strengthen their attack.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also shared the development via his X handle, stating:
“Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea in June as Bayern are NOT triggering €65m buy option clause. Bayern director Eberl confirms the decision to ZDF as reported since January. ❌ Chelsea and Jackson’s camp will assess his future with possible new move in the summer.”
Jackson’s time in Germany has been closely watched, especially considering the expectations that followed his move from Chelsea. At the time, Bayern had agreed a loan deal to bring him in, hoping he would add pace and presence to their forward line. However, the club has now chosen to move in a different direction.

Back at Chelsea, his absence has been felt in more ways than one. Cole Palmer, who has been one of the standout performers, has reportedly had to adapt his game without a consistent striker ahead of him.
Jackson’s movement and ability to stretch defences provided a dynamic option that Palmer could link up with, and without that, Chelsea’s attacking rhythm has sometimes looked less fluid.
With Jackson now expected to return, Chelsea and the player’s camp will sit down to assess the next step. A fresh transfer or another loan move in the summer remains a strong possibility, as both sides evaluate what works best for his development and long-term role.

Softfootball understands that this situation reflects a broader uncertainty around Chelsea’s attacking structure, with key decisions expected in the summer as the club looks to reshape its forward line and find the right balance going into the next season.
