Moisés Caicedo has been left out of Chelsea’s matchday squad for their Premier League clash against Arsenal today, with the Ecuadorian midfielder missing both the bench and starting lineup.

Softfootball understands that Caicedo’s absence comes after a worrying fitness setback in Chelsea’s previous outing against Brighton. The midfielder was introduced as a substitute but managed just 14 minutes before being forced off, raising further questions about his physical condition.

The latest development means Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso will have to adjust his plans for the London derby without one of his most important midfielders. Caicedo has established himself as a key presence in Chelsea’s midfield, offering defensive protection, ball recovery and the ability to dictate play from deeper areas.

His continued fitness problems will therefore be a concern for Alonso, particularly with Chelsea facing a demanding run of fixtures.

Levi Colwill is among the notable names included on the substitutes bench as Chelsea prepare for the encounter at the Emirates Stadium. Alonso will be hoping the players selected can compensate for the absence of Caicedo and provide enough control against an Arsenal side expected to pose a significant threat.

Caicedo’s omission also comes at an unfortunate time for the midfielder, who will be keen to regain his rhythm and avoid a prolonged spell on the sidelines. Chelsea’s medical staff will continue to assess his condition before determining when he can safely return to competitive action.

For now, his absence leaves Alonso without a crucial midfield option for one of the biggest fixtures on Chelsea’s early-season calendar.
