Softfootball has gathered that James Tavernier will leave Rangers this summer after 11 years at the club, becoming a free agent when his current deal expires.

The update comes from the official X handle of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano as Girona are set to finalize a €1 million deal for Oleksandr Pyshchur from ETO Győr FC, with the Ukrainian striker expected to join the La Liga side in June.

Romano announced:

James Tavernier has decided to leave Rangers at the end of the season after 11 years at the club. Tavernier will be a free agent this summer.

Tavernier’s departure brings an end to one of the most significant modern eras at Ibrox Stadium, where Tavernier established himself as captain, leader, and one of the club’s most productive defenders.

The 34-year-old right-back joined Rangers in 2015 and went on to score more than 125 goals, an extraordinary figure for a defender. Many of those strikes came from penalties and set pieces, but his consistency, durability, and attacking influence made him a standout figure across multiple seasons.

Tavernier also played a key leadership role during title races and European campaigns, helping Rangers through periods of rebuilding and renewed domestic success. His long service and output have made him one of the club’s defining players of the last decade.

Recent reports had already suggested that no new contract offer would be made, and Romano’s latest update now confirms the end of his time in Glasgow. Interest is expected from clubs in England as well as overseas sides looking to sign an experienced free agent.

Replacing Tavernier’s leadership, availability, and attacking contribution will be a major challenge for Rangers as they prepare for a new chapter. Supporters are expected to give the captain a strong farewell after years of commitment..

Meanwhile, FIFA has officially begun the final countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026, announcing that April 22 marks 50 days until kickoff.
