Union Berlin have made history by appointing Marie-Louise Eta as interim men’s head coach until June. Softfootball understands that she is the first woman to take charge of a Bundesliga men’s team.

Eta’s appointment was confirmed by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X channel as she replaces Steffen Baumgart following a 3–1 defeat to FC Heidenheim.

Romano revealed:

Union lost at Heidenheim, sacked the head coach Steffen Baumgart and put Marie-Louise Eta in charge until the end of the season. Ets becomes the first female head coach in the history of men’s Bundesliga.

The 34-year-old has already impressed within the club, previously leading Union’s U19 side to an unbeaten league title and serving as assistant coach with the senior team. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in German football history.
