West Ham United have taken to their official X handle to celebrate defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka after he received a major international call-up to represent the DR Congo national football team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup intercontinental play-off semi-final scheduled for March 26 in Mexico. AWB has been named in DR Congo’s squad for their World Cup play-off final
Wan-Bissaka, who joined West Ham from Manchester United in the summer of 2025, recently switched his international allegiance to DR Congo after receiving FIFA clearance to represent the Central African nation. The right-back had previously been linked with England but opted to commit his future to the Leopards.
His inclusion comes at a crucial moment as DR Congo attempt to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which would mark their first appearance at the tournament since 1974.

The Leopards reached this stage after edging out the Nigeria national football team in the CAF play-off final last November. Wan-Bissaka’s defensive ability and experience in the Premier League is expected to strengthen the squad as they prepare for the decisive match.
However, the qualification campaign has also been surrounded by controversy, with the Nigeria Football Federation raising concerns over the eligibility of several DR Congo players, including Wan-Bissaka.
Elsewhere, Igor Tudor has declined to comment on whether he is the right man to lead Tottenham Hotspur during their difficult run of form.
