Zinedine Zidane looks set for a long-awaited return to management, with the French icon finally hinting at his next move after years away from the touchline. The former Real Madrid boss, known for his calm leadership and tactical brilliance, has been linked with several top European clubs since leaving the Bernabéu in 2021.
Softfootball understands that Zidane has been taking his time to assess his options, preferring a project that aligns with his footballing philosophy and long-term ambitions. His name has repeatedly surfaced in conversations around the French national team, a role many fans and pundits believe is tailor-made for him.

According to top journalist Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, he provided the latest on the former World cup winner’s situation, Romano posted;
Zidane said: For sure I’m returning to work as head coach, it’s my plan. My desire is to become France head coach one day… let’s see, speaking at the Festival Dello Sport.

France, meanwhile, have continued their excellent form under current manager Didier Deschamps. Les Bleus recently defeated Azerbaijan 3-0 to maintain their perfect start to the World Cup qualifiers, with several standout performances across the squad.

Zidane’s recent comments have reignited discussion about his eventual move into the France job, as fans continue to speculate about when and not if he’ll make his return to the dugout.
For now, Zidane remains patient, but his intentions are clear and that is – he’s ready to step back into management and the French job might just be the one calling his name.
