Former Nigeria international Yakubu Aiyegbeni believes Arsenal must strengthen their attack with a new striker if they are serious about ending their long wait for the Premier League title. The Gunners moved within four points of Liverpool after beating Tottenham Hotspur, but the ex-forward feels they still lack enough firepower to go all the way.
Arsenal have pushed Manchester City in recent seasons and are once again among the leading contenders this campaign.
Softfootball understands Yakubu sees Liverpool’s recent dropped points as an opportunity for Mikel Arteta’s side to close the gap, provided they address their biggest weakness before the transfer window closes.
Speaking about Arsenal’s title hopes, Yakubu said:
This season is proving to be quite challenging. Liverpool are dropping points little by little. It’s an opportunity for Arsenal to capitalise on that.
He added:
For Arsenal, it’s just a matter of getting a striker. Once they do, I believe they can push Liverpool all the way to the end.
Arsenal are expected to remain active in the transfer market as they continue searching for a forward capable of boosting their title ambitions.
