Ousmane Dembele has reportedly left France national team camp after sustaining an injury against Ukraine on Friday, September 5, 2025 during Les Bleus’ 2-0 victory in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Paris Saint-Germain star had already arrived at Clairefontaine with muscle discomfort in his left thigh, which had kept him out of the first team training session. Dembélé went on as a substitute for the second half of France’s 2-0 win against Ukraine and lasted less than 35 minutes. He left with what seemed to be a right hamstring injury.

He limped off the pitch, and instead of sitting with his teammates on the bench, he headed straight towards the tunnel, leaving France and PSG fans with their heads in their hands.

According to a post on Fabrizio Romano Facebook page, Ousmane Dembele is set to leave France squad due to a muscle injury as they prepare to host Iceland next on September 9 looking to strengthen their grip on a place at next summer’s World Cup. The post reads:

BREAKING: Ousmane Dembélé, set to leave France squad due to a muscle INJURY

The PSG winger took little part in practice with France this week to manage an injury. France coach Didier Deschamps was visibly frustrated when Dembélé’s injury was clear and gestured angrily at the sideline.

Softfootball was reliably informed that PSG had warned the national team doctors in advance about the risk of injury and asked that Dembele not be played, since the footballer was feeling fatigue. However, the coaching staff of Les Bleus, led by Didier Deschamps, did not heed PSG’s request, and now the forward will leave the national team camp to undergo an MRI.

A week ago, Dembele scored a brace and provided an assist in the Ligue 1 match against Toulouse (6-3) and was substituted in the 70th minute due to discomfort in the back of his left thigh.

PSG starts their eight-game Champions League opening phase program on September 17 at home to Atalanta. The French champion goes to Barcelona, Dembélé’s former club, two weeks later on Oct. 1.
