Tottenham Hotspurs get rousing welcome in Seoul as Son returns home

Tottenham Hotspurs were welcomed to a rousing ovation as they arrived in the capital city of South Korea, Seoul today for their last summer tour game in Asia. Softfootball understands that South Korea is the native home of Sours captain, Son Heung-Min.

The Whites arrived in Seoul a day after defeating their London city rivals, Arsenal 1-0 in Hong Kong courtesy of a Pape Sarr lobbing goal. The game was the first time a North London derby was played outside of Europe.

Spurs had arrived Seoul to wrap up their 2025 summer tour having played in Hong Kong, the other country they visited in Asia. They had played Luton Town, Wycombe Wanderers and Reading before Arsenal.

Son’s presence was a big factor as hundreds welcomed fans were at the airport waiting as the team arrived. A video of the rousing welcome was posted on the club’s official verified X handle.

Spurs are preparing to face Newcastle United on Sunday in another Premier League clash in Asia. Thomas Frank’s men are about to grab another midfielder for next season as Joao Palhinha has bee reported to have passed his medicals ahead of his move from Byer Munich.

Palhinha is joining Spurs on a loan deal with a non-compulsory option to buy at £27m at the end of his loan spell. Palhinha will join Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel as the big senior team arrivals at Spurs this summer.

The 2025 Europa League winners are starting all over again with a new coach in Thomas Frank who they brought in from Brentford after Ange Postecoglou was axed. 

A more friendly atmosphere is expected in Seoul when Spurs take to the field to play against Newcastle especially if Son gets to lead the team as captain on his home soil.

The match is to be played at the Seoul World Cup stadium on Sunday.
