Former Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international Thomas Partey has been officially charged with the r*pe of two women, raising serious questions about the future of his football career.
Softfootball gathered that the Metropolitan Police confirmed Partey is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, linked to alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Interestingly, the charges came just four days after Thomas Partey’s departure from Arsenal, sparking concerns about whether the club had prior knowledge of the looming charges.
According to the authorities, the s**ual assault charge involves one woman, while the r*pe charges concern another individual.
The case first surfaced back in February 2022, and as confirmed by his legal team, Partey has cooperated fully with both the police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) since then.
Partey’s lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, responded to the news by stating that her client denies all allegations and is determined to use the legal process as an opportunity to clear his name. The Ghanaian international is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said:
