Tammy Abraham Open to Aston Villa Return as Unai Emery Pushes for New Striker

Softfootball understands that Aston Villa are quietly but confidently closing in on a notable transfer move, one that could see Tammy Abraham pull on the claret and blue once again. As reported by sport expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.
He said:

Tammy Abraham has opened doors to Aston Villa move as personal terms are not an issue.Villa, working on new striker after Malen left to join AS Roma — no agreement or deal done yet with Besiktas.

The push comes after Donyell Malen’s imminent exit to AS Roma, a deal that has gathered pace over the last few days and now looks all but done. For Unai Emery, it’s about timing, balance, and maybe a bit of belief too.

Malen’s move to Roma has been agreed in principle, with the Dutch attacker already en route to Italy to complete his medical today.

The structure of the deal is fairly straightforward. Roma will pay a £2 million loan fee initially, with a £25 million, €28m obligation to buy that becomes active if they qualify for any European competition.

Despite featuring regularly for Villa, Malen never quite nailed down a fixed role. He made 35 Premier League appearances this season and scored four goals; his last appearance for Aston Villa came in the club’s 2-1 victory against Tottenham in the FA Cup, but there was a sense he wanted more, especially as a central striker.

Roma offered that clarity, and sometimes that’s enough to force a decision. With Malen on his way out, Villa have wasted little time reopening talks for Abraham. The striker, now 28, is remembered fondly at Villa Park after his 2018–19 loan spell, where he scored 26 goals and became, briefly, the heartbeat of the team.

Sources suggest Abraham is open to a return and has even told people close to him that Villa would be his first choice, despite interest from other Premier League sides. A four-and-a-half-year contract is already being discussed.

Abraham is currently on loan at Beşiktaş from Roma, and the Turkish club has an obligation to buy if certain clauses are met. That’s where things get a little messy. Villa must negotiate carefully with both clubs, and one idea on the table is offering a player like Evann Guessand on loan to Beşiktaş to ease the situation.

Abraham has scored 12 goals in 24 games this season across all competitions, and Emery sees him as a key piece for what could be a very long run-in. The transfer could be completed within days if all goes well.
