Sunderland A.F.C. completed one of the most remarkable stories of the season after securing UEFA Europa League qualification in their first campaign back in the Premier League following an eight-year absence.
The Black Cats sealed their European return with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Chelsea F.C., condemning the London side to a disappointing 10th-place finish and no European football in what is expected to be Xabi Alonso’s first season in charge.
This comes after Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-1 which everyone thought was a renewed hope for them to get to Europe.
Softfootball understands that Few predicted Sunderland would survive, let alone challenge for Europe, but head coach Régis Le Bris guided his side to an unforgettable campaign.

The breakthrough arrived in the 25th minute when Trai Hume fired Sunderland ahead. Early in the second half, pressure from Brian Brobbey forced an unfortunate own goal from Malo Gusto to make it 2-0.
Chelsea responded quickly through Cole Palmer, whose powerful strike gave the visitors hope. But their comeback hopes suffered a major blow when Wesley Fofana received a second yellow card and was sent off.
This results has brought a lot of reactions online with fans showing a whole lot of disappointing in the squad and in the football club in general.
