Shakhtar Donetsk are in advanced negotiations to sign Alan Matturro from Genoa as the Ukrainian giants look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.

Talks between the clubs are progressing well, with both sides working to finalise the structure of the proposed deal.

Softfootball understands that the transfer is being discussed as an initial loan with an option to buy, giving Shakhtar the opportunity to make the move permanent if the Uruguayan centre-back impresses. Meanwhile, Genoa have also agreed a loan deal for Marseille midfielder Hamed Traoré, as the Serie A club continue reshaping their squad during the summer transfer window.

Matturro is regarded as one of Uruguay’s promising young defenders and has attracted interest for his composure on the ball, aerial ability and defensive awareness. Shakhtar believe the 20-year-old has the qualities to become an important part of their back line.

Negotiations are still ongoing, with the clubs working through the final details before reaching a full agreement. If completed, the move would provide Shakhtar with another talented defensive option while allowing Matturro the opportunity to gain regular first-team football and continue his development at a competitive level.
