Sancho Faces Doubts Over Premier League Future

Manchester United’s decision to offload Jadon Sancho appears increasingly justified, as Chelsea’s latest signing struggles to prove his worth. Former Blues defender William Gallas has cast doubt over whether Sancho can ever deliver consistent performances in the Premier League.

After making a promising start at Stamford Bridge following his summer move from United, the 24-year-old’s form has dipped sharply since December. Despite scoring twice early in the campaign, Sancho has failed to add to his tally, leading Enzo Maresca to favor other attacking options like Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Christopher Nkunku.

Sancho returned to Chelsea’s starting lineup in last week’s 4-0 victory over Southampton but failed to contribute a goal or assist before being substituted in the second half. His continued struggles have fueled speculation over whether he can become a key player, even as Chelsea prepares to finalize a permanent transfer for him in the summer for £20-25 million.

Two-time Premier League winner Gallas believes Sancho lacks the consistency required to thrive in England’s top flight. “At the end of the season, people judge you on your statistics—goals and assists,” Gallas told Slingo. “He has quality, but fans are disappointed because he’s not delivering regularly. I’m not sure he can be consistent in the Premier League.”

Gallas pointed out the relentless physical and mental demands of the league as a potential stumbling block for the winger. “You have to push yourself to the limit all season, not just in flashes. Some players simply can’t sustain that level, and Sancho may be one of them.”

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel echoed those concerns, admitting he had expected much more from the former Borussia Dortmund star. “He deceived us with a few good games,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast. “We thought we were getting the Dortmund Sancho, but he’s disappeared again. He doesn’t take players on, create chances, or impact the team like he should.”

With competition for places intensifying at Chelsea, Sancho faces an uphill battle to prove his doubters wrong. If he fails to deliver before the season ends, his move to Stamford Bridge could be remembered as another costly mistake for the club.
