Saka started the match as part of an attacking England line-up selected by interim manager Lee Carsley, but his evening ended early after Greece took the lead in the second half.

Softfootball understands that The Arsenal winger appeared to feel discomfort shortly after missing a challenge on Vangelis Pavlidis, who scored Greece’s opening goal in the 49th minute. Saka went down after the ball hit the net and was unable to continue, forcing Carsley to replace him with Chelsea winger Noni Madueke.

The injury will be a major concern for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is already dealing with fitness problems in his squad. Captain Martin Odegaard remains unavailable, while Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko have also had injury issues. Jurrien Timber also missed Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

Greece thought they had doubled their lead shortly after the opener when Giorgos Masouras finished past Jordan Pickford, but the goal was ruled out for offside against Pavlidis in the build-up.

England later found a way back into the game when Jude Bellingham scored with two minutes of normal time remaining.

However, Greece had the final say as Pavlidis struck again in the 94th minute after a scramble in the box, sealing a historic victory and handing England their first competitive defeat at Wembley in four years.

For Arsenal, attention will now turn to Saka’s fitness, with Arteta hoping the winger’s injury is not serious.
