Softfootball understands that Roma and Genoa are finalising a deal to send 22-year-old attacking midfielder Tommaso Baldanzi to Genoa on loan, with a buy option clause close to being confirmed. As reported by sport expert Fabrizio Romano via his official X account.
He posted:
Genoa and Roma, advancing to get Tommaso Baldanzi deal done on initial loan with buy option clause.
The option to buy is reportedly set at €10 million and could become mandatory if certain performance targets are met. Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi, who previously attempted to sign Baldanzi for Roma in 2024, played a key role in convincing the player to join the club.

Baldanzi has struggled for minutes under Gian Piero Gasperini this season, prompting Roma, which recently defeated Como 1-0 in the Serie A following a 3-0 victory against Celtic in the Europa League, to explore a temporary exit to ensure his development continues.
Genoa, currently fighting to avoid relegation, see the midfielder as a vital addition to boost attacking creativity in the crucial second half of the 2025–26 Serie A season.
Interestingly, Fiorentina had been considered front-runners to sign Baldanzi just days ago. Reports suggested a loan with an obligation to buy, including a long-term contract until 2030, with the potential bundling of young left-back Niccolò Fortini moving to Roma.

However, Genoa’s late push, fuelled by De Rossi’s personal outreach to Baldanzi, ultimately swung the deal in their favour.
The framework of the agreement involves a dry loan, meaning Roma won’t receive an upfront fee. The €10 million buy option is expected to trigger if the player meets specific on-field objectives. Earlier negotiations with Hellas Verona had suggested a lower €8 million option, but Genoa’s stronger commitment and De Rossi’s influence made the difference.

Baldanzi’s journey to this point has been dotted with near-moves. A summer 2025 loan to Verona collapsed due to Roma’s inability to secure Marco Pessina, while other suitors, including Pisa and Fiorentina, showed interest.
Originally signed from Empoli in January 2024, Baldanzi was once hailed as one of Italy’s brightest young talents. Yet, under multiple managerial changes and tactical adjustments at Roma, consistent playing time has been elusive, making this loan a crucial step for his career.
