England have been dealt an injury blow after Reece James suffered a minor hamstring injury following the 0-0 World Cup draw against Ghana.

Softfootball gathered that The Chelsea captain felt tightness after the match and is now undergoing an accelerated rehabilitation programme as England’s medical staff monitor his recovery.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that James did not train with the squad in Kansas City and did not travel to New York for England’s final Group Stage match against Panama.

As a result, the 25-year-old defender will miss the clash with Panama and is also ruled out of England’s Round of 32 fixture. His availability beyond that remains uncertain.

We see it as a minor hamstring issue, a minor hamstring injury. He was not able to train in the last two days

Tuchel said.

England will now hope James recovers in time should they progress deeper into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
