Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has challenged the club to aim higher after their recent Europa League triumph, refusing to let the historic victory become a final destination. The Australian tactician led Spurs to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the final, securing their first major silverware in 17 years.
However, celebrations were overshadowed by the club’s dismal domestic performance. A heavy 4-1 home defeat to Brighton on the last day of the season saw Tottenham slump to 17th in the Premier League, narrowly avoiding relegation. Only Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton posted worse records.
Despite delivering long-awaited success in Europe, uncertainty still clouds Postecoglou’s future. Club chairman Daniel Levy has yet to confirm whether the 59-year-old will remain at the helm for another season. This, even as Postecoglou hinted at continuity during the club’s trophy parade, implying he’s planning a third season in charge.
Reflecting on the journey, Postecoglou shared that there had been widespread fear among staff and supporters heading into the Europa League final. Given the club’s poor track record in knockout stages over the past two decades, expectations were cautiously low.
But rather than basking in the success, Postecoglou emphasized progression. He encouraged the players and fans to view this moment not as the peak, but as the beginning of something greater. With a newfound taste of victory, his focus is now on ensuring Tottenham becomes a regular contender for trophies, both at home and abroad.
