Arsenal to face Manchester United in Premier League opener

Arsenal’s journey in the 2025–26 Premier League season kicks off with a high-stakes clash against Manchester United on opening weekend, scheduled for August 16/17. The Gunners, under Mikel Arteta, are aiming to finally break their frustrating run of three consecutive second-place finishes.

The start to the campaign won’t be easy, with Arsenal facing defending champions Liverpool on matchday three, followed by encounters with heavyweights Manchester City and Newcastle within the first six rounds. Last season ended in disappointment, with the Gunners finishing 10 points adrift of Liverpool after a promising title challenge fell apart due to injuries to key players.

Crucial first-teamers such as Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Magalhaes missed major chunks of the 2024–25 campaign, contributing to the team’s dip in form. These absences proved costly as Arsenal’s momentum waned in the title race.

As of now, Arsenal have yet to make any summer signings. However, they remain active in the transfer market with efforts underway to secure a new striker. Both Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko have been in discussions, as the club searches for a reliable goal scorer to strengthen their attacking line.

In addition to a striker, Arteta is also targeting a winger to widen the squad’s creative options. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon are reportedly high on the club’s shortlist as they look to inject fresh energy into the flanks.

With less than three months between seasons, Arsenal will need to act swiftly to reinforce the squad and avoid another near miss. The early fixtures demand focus, depth, and fitness—three elements the Gunners will be desperate to get right this time around.
