Southampton striker Paul Onuachu is set to make a sensational return to Trabzonspor, with the Nigerian forward completing a permanent transfer to the Turkish club. Despite receiving a higher bid from an unnamed Belgian side, the Saints were left with little choice after Onuachu made it clear that his heart was set on a move back to Turkey.
After several weeks of negotiations and setbacks, Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba confirmed that a full agreement has now been reached between the clubs. Onuachu is expected to arrive in Turkey this weekend to undergo his medical and finalize contract terms. The deal was described as “100% complete” with all parties finally aligned.

The 31-year-old had spent the past two seasons on loan at Trabzonspor, where he rediscovered his scoring touch, netting 17 goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances. His successful stint at Papara Park left the club and player equally eager to reunite. Last season, a permanent move was nearly finalized, but Onuachu stayed at St Mary’s. That decision backfired, as he managed only four goals in 28 matches for Southampton.
While clubs in England and Belgium made attempts to sign him, Onuachu turned them down in favor of Trabzonspor. Southampton, initially hesitant, eventually conceded and accepted the offer, knowing the striker had no interest in other destinations.
Now, with the transfer window heating up, Onuachu is poised to rejoin his former club where he previously thrived. The Turkish side are expected to officially unveil him in the coming days following his medical. For Onuachu, this move presents a chance to resume his impressive form in a league where he’s already left his mark — and to rejoin the growing number of Nigerian stars in Turkish football.
