Joaquín Panichelli has suffered a devastating setback after sustaining a torn ACL in training, ruling the RC Strasbourg striker out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Softfootball reports.

The 23-year-old Argentine had been enjoying a breakthrough season in Ligue 1, scoring eight goals in just nine matches and rapidly emerging as a potential inclusion for the Argentina national football team. His impressive form included standout performances such as an early goal against Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting his growing influence.

The injury is particularly cruel given his history, as a similar ACL issue disrupted his development during his time at Deportivo Alavés in 2022. With typical recovery timelines ranging between seven to nine months, Panichelli is now set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines, ending his hopes of making his World Cup debut this summer as reported by Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle.

Romano reported:

Joaquin Panichelli, expected to miss the World Cup with an ACL injury. Panichelli suffered similar injury already years ago and now he’s set to be out of World Cup with Argentina, as @arevalo_martin reports. RC Strasbourg staff also being informed.

Strasbourg will also feel the impact, losing a key attacking figure as they push to maintain stability in the league standings.

Meanwhile, the club has maintained strong transfer links with Chelsea, recently facilitating loan moves to strengthen their squad structure.
