Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen continued his outstanding form after scoring twice in Galatasaray’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League clash.
Softfootball understands that Osimhen has now scored in consecutive matches for the Turkish champions following his goal in the 2-1 league victory over Besiktas. The Nigerian forward has also found the net six times in his last five appearances for Galatasaray.
Osimhen restored Galatasaray’s lead in the 31st minute before doubling his tally eight minutes later with another clinical finish to put the hosts firmly in control before the break.
The 25-year-old came close to completing a hat-trick in the second half but saw a close-range header sail narrowly over the crossbar before Tottenham goalkeeper Fraser Forster produced a fine save to deny him another goal.
England-born Nigerian striker Dominic Solanke reduced the deficit for Spurs to set up a tense finale, but Galatasaray held firm to secure all three points.
Tottenham were also forced to play much of the second half with 10 men after William Lankshear received a red card.
The victory was Galatasaray’s third win in four Europa League matches, alongside one draw, lifting them to third place in the standings with 10 points, two behind leaders Lazio.
For Tottenham, the defeat was their first in this season’s competition and leaves the North London club fifth on nine points.
