Former Remo Stars forward Elijah Ogundana was not included in Flamengo’s matchday squad as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Fluminense in the Brazilian Serie A on Friday.

Flamengo went into the encounter on the back of three consecutive league victories but were unable to extend their winning run as Fluminense claimed all three points. Softfootball gathered that the result leaves Flamengo fourth on the table with 51 points from 29 matches, nine points behind leaders Botafogo.

Ogundana is still waiting to make his senior debut for the Brazilian giants since completing his move to the club.

The 19-year-old’s only involvement with the first team came on August 18 when he was named among the substitutes in Flamengo’s 4-1 defeat away to Botafogo.

Despite his absence from the senior side, the Nigerian youngster has continued to impress with Flamengo’s U-20 team. He has recorded four goals and three assists in 16 appearances in the CBF Brasileiro U-20 league, while also contributing one goal and one assist in four matches in the U-20 Copa Libertadores.

Ogundana initially joined Flamengo on loan from Remo in July 2023 before the Brazilian club exercised the option to sign him permanently in August 2024 on a three-year contract.

the talented forward first caught Flamengo’s attention during the 2023 Viareggio youth tournament in Italy, where his performances convinced the club to move for his signature.
