Teenage midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has been voted Arsenal’s Player of the Match following his impressive display in the Gunners’ 3-1 Premier League comeback win over Brentford on New Year’s Day, with Softfootball noting the award was decided by supporters through a poll on the club’s official X account.
The 17-year-old claimed 40 percent of the fan vote, finishing ahead of Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli after a confident performance in his first Premier League start.
Jesus, who scored Arsenal’s equaliser, finished second with 38 percent of the votes, while Martinelli and Merino received 15 and seven percent respectively.
Nwaneri was handed a starting role on the right wing as Mikel Arteta looked to cope without the injured Bukayo Saka. The academy graduate impressed throughout the contest and played a key role in Arsenal’s third goal, setting up Martinelli to seal the victory.
The talented youngster has now scored once in 11 Premier League appearances this season, while also netting three goals in three Carabao Cup matches.
Arsenal’s victory lifted them to 39 points, leaving the North London club six points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.
