Nottingham Forest have finally put an end to their poor form in the Europa League with a sharp 2-0 win over FC Porto at the City Ground. The victory came as a big relief for the players, fans, and the new Head Coach Sean Dyche, Softfootball reports.
The result marks a significant turning point for the club following a turbulent period under Ange Postecoglou, whose 39-day tenure ended after a winless run culminating in a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The match began with Forest showing real determination and fierceness. In the 19th minute, Morgan Gibbs-White calmly scored a penalty which gave Forest the lead after a foul. The first half ended 1-0, which boosted Forest’s confidence more than in their previous matches.

Porto made several changes in the second half, in order to claim the match, but Nottingham Forest’s defense didn’t shake. Murillo and Matt Turner made key saves to keep their opponents at bay, frustrating Porto’s attacking efforts.

In the 77th minute, Forest were awarded another penalty and Igor Jesus stepped up to make it 2-0. The crowd jumped up in joy as it became clear that Forest were on their way to a win they had so much craved. Tension rose as both Murillo and Igor Jesus received yellow cards, but Nottingham Forest held on until the final whistle was blown.
This victory is Nottingham Forest’s first win in the Europa League season and represents a crucial breakthrough for Sean Dyche’s team. Dyche had before the match explained that the team hoped to win not just to feel better but to lift the spirits of everyone, including the city and the fans. With this win, the team, the city, and the fans are certainly feeling uplifted.
As shared in the club’s verified X handle, Dyche’s overjoyed mood was very evident. They posted:
