It also came just days after their emphatic victory at Goodison Park, where Malick Thiaw scored twice in a 4-1 win over Everton, a result covered by SoftFootball in their recent match analysis.

Tottenham arrived looking to recover from their setback against Fulham, who shocked them in Marco Silva’s 200th match in charge, a result also detailed by SoftFootball earlier in the week.

The first half remained tense but balanced, with both sides creating half-chances. Newcastle enjoyed early momentum through Lewis Hall, Harvey Barnes and Lewis Miley, who forced Guglielmo Vicario into a routine save. Joelinton came closest to breaking the deadlock when he powered through the defence but struck the far post.

Spurs responded with a moment of creativity from Lucas Bergvall, whose backheel from Mohammed Kudus’ delivery clipped the top of the bar. Newcastle returned from the break with increased sharpness, and Barnes’ burst forward forced Vicario into a strong stop before Kevin Danso produced a vital goal-line clearance to deny Nick Woltemade.

Newcastle’s pressure finally paid off when Bruno Guimarães capitalised on a loose clearance and curled a composed finish into the bottom corner. Spurs had been second best but responded instantly. Kudus delivered a precise cross that Cristian Romero attacked with conviction, meeting it with a powerful diving header to level the score.

Newcastle pushed forward again and were awarded a penalty following a VAR review of Rodrigo Bentancur’s tussle with Dan Burn. Anthony Gordon stepped up and fired into the top corner for his first league goal of the season.

Just when Newcastle thought they had secured another home win, Romero struck again deep into stoppage time. After a corner was only partially cleared, the Spurs captain reacted instinctively and sent an overhead kick bouncing past Aaron Ramsdale to complete his brace.

His late intervention earned Tottenham a valuable point and denied Newcastle a seventh straight home victory. Despite dominating possession, chances and expected goals, Newcastle were left frustrated as Spurs’ resilience paid off.

The result, shared by Spurs on their official X account, provides breathing room for new manager Thomas Frank amid fan scrutiny, as Romero’s heroics overshadowed criticisms of sluggish attacking play and poor progression from midfield.

The draw keeps both sides within touching distance of the top half, with Newcastle maintaining their strong home presence and Tottenham ending a difficult run with a spirited comeback.
