Mutiu Adepoju believes Victor Osimhen is destined to rewrite Nigerian football history.

The former Super Eagles international backed the Galatasaray striker to eventually surpass Rashidi Yekini’s all-time national team scoring record of 37 goals, a mark that has stood for decades.

Softfootball’s checks show Adepoju made the prediction in comments to SuperSport, pointing to Osimhen’s dedication as the key factor:

Osimhen has all it takes to break Yekini’s record. He’s a very committed player, gives everything for the national team and so it’s very possible for him to break Yekini’s record.

Osimhen currently sits joint-second on Nigeria’s all-time list with 23 goals, level with legendary forward Segun Odegbami, and has been widely tipped by pundits to keep climbing given his age and current form. At 25, he still has plenty of playing years ahead to close the gap.

Whether the record eventually falls may simply be a matter of time rather than doubt.
