Mourinho Gets His Man as Škriniar Edges Closer to Permanent Fenerbahçe Move

Fenerbahçe are on the brink of completing the permanent signing of Slovakian centre-back Milan Škriniar from Paris Saint-Germain, after a successful loan spell in Istanbul.

Softfootball understand that Fenerbahçe have tabled a long-term contract offer running until 2029 and submitted an improved bid to PSG. The final green light from the French side is now all that’s missing.

Škriniar has convinced both the board and Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho of his value and is ready to join the team on a permanent basis, and now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported via his official X account that:

“Understand Fenerbahçe have improved their bid to Paris Saint-Germain for Milan Škriniar! Negotiations underway to try get final green light from PSG… Škriniar wants the move, Mourinho wants him.”

The 30-year-old defender joined PSG from Inter Milan in 2023 but has struggled for game time under Luis Enrique, making just four league starts all season. Despite this, he found form during his six-month loan at Fenerbahçe, where he quickly became a key figure for José Mourinho scoring three times and assisting once in 16 matches.

Fenerbahçe’s determination to keep Škriniar has paid off. The Turkish club have reportedly agreed on a combined €20 million deal with PSG to sign both Škriniar and Spanish midfielder Marco Asensio. The fee will be settled in instalments.

While Galatasaray and Tottenham were previously linked with Škriniar, Fenerbahçe moved decisively to secure his services. Mourinho, it’s believed, personally advocated for the defender’s retention.

As for Asensio, the former Real Madrid star has attracted attention from AC Milan, Inter, and Villarreal. However, Fenerbahçe’s €9 million annual wage package puts them ahead in the race to land him, despite PSG paying the midfielder €14 million a year.

Asensio is currently on vacation but is expected to finalize his move to Istanbul in the coming days.
