Arsenal reportedly explored the possibility of signing Alvaro Morata during the January transfer window before the striker eventually completed a move to Galatasaray.
The Gunners were looking to strengthen their attack after suffering a number of injury setbacks, including the long-term absences of Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka.
Arsenal had previously attempted to sign Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins but saw their approach rejected by the Premier League club.
Mikel Arteta’s side subsequently considered bringing Morata to the Emirates Stadium on loan for the remainder of the season.
However, the Spain international instead chose to leave AC Milan and join Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray.
Morata had moved to Milan from Atletico Madrid last summer but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter, scoring five goals in 16 league appearances.
Softfootball understands that Arsenal ultimately decided against signing another striker during the transfer window, leaving Kai Havertz as the club’s main recognised centre-forward option.
Leandro Trossard can also provide an alternative in the position when required.
