Messi’s 2-delights as Inter Miami win second game after Club World Cup exit

After their 4-0 thrashing at the hands of PSG in the Round of 16 stages at the FIFA Club World Cup, Inter Miami are back to winning ways in the MLS as they won their second consecutive game.

Softffootball watched as Lionel Messi delighted the crowd with his 2 goals giving Miami all three points with their 2-1 win at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts against New England Revolution.

Messi opened the scoring 27 minutes into the game after Revs’ defender Tanner Beason attempted to head the ball back towards his goalkeeper, Aljaz Ivacic, only to see it intercepted by the Argentine and lashed home into the back of the net for his first of the evening.

He then doubled Miami’s lead 11 minutes later, tucking into the bottom right corner after a delightful through ball from Sergio Busquets.

The Revolution had multiple chances to get themselves back into the match, but they lacked a clinical finish until the closing stages of the game. With 10 minutes to spare, club stalwart Carles Gil fired home from distance with a blistering effort after dribbling past Tomas Aviles, cutting the deficit in half.

However, it was too little, too late for the Northeastern club as their attacking momentum arrived in the closing stages of the game, and they were never able to find an equalizer. Miami, upon return from the FIFA Club World Cup, has now won two straight while outscoring their opposition six to two.

With Wednesday’s victory, the South Beach club moved up to 35 points on the campaign through 18 matches played, putting them fifth in the Eastern Conference standings. They trail first-place FC Cincinnati by seven points, but have three games in hand.

In the last game, Messi was also unstoppable as Softfootball recorded how the 2022 World Cup winner won back to back MLS Player of the Match award. Lionel Messi has been named MLS Player of the Matchday for Matchday 22 following a standout performance in Inter Miami’s emphatic 4-1 victory away to CF Montréal, Softfootball reports.

As gathered from goal.com, the Argentine produced a dazzling display, scoring a brace and providing an assist as the Herons came from behind to claim all three points. After Montréal opened the scoring, Messi teed up Tadeo Allende for the equalizer and put his side ahead just before the break.
