Manchester United winger Bryan Mbeumo came off the bench to score a really important goal for Cameroon in their 2–0 away win over Mauritius, a result that may just keep their World Cup dreams alive.
Mbuemo who was Manchester United’s August Player of the Month, has been off to a pretty bright start since moving to Old Trafford from Brentford. Softfootball even made an earlier article on four things to expect from the talented winger at United, and once again, he made the headlines; this time on international duty, coming on late in the game, Mbeumo found the back of the net deep in stoppage time, wrapping up the win and setting the tone for United players in action during this international break.
A bit surprisingly, he didn’t start; however, he was on the pitch for 77 minutes in United’s 2-nil victory over Sunderland, serving up an assist for Mount for the first goal, and he came on in the 75th minute for Carlos Baleba and, not long after, got on the end of a teasing cross from Christian Bassogog. The first attempt was parried by Mauritius keeper Dorian Chiotti, but the rebound fell kindly, and Mbeumo didn’t hesitate he smashed it home first time.
Manchester United acknowledged the forward’s contribution with a statement on the club’s official website.

Our August Player of the Month has made a good start to life at Old Trafford and found the back of the net in stoppage time of the World Cup qualifier, as his involvement kicked off the Reds in action for their countries during this break.
Earlier in the second half, Nicolas Ngamaleu had put Cameroon ahead on the 56th minute, easing a bit of pressure after Libya had earlier stunned group leaders Cape Verde 3–1. But football being football, Cape Verde fought back to make it 3–3, which somehow added more tension to Group D’s final standings.

United’s on-loan shot-stopper, André Onana, now at Trabzonspor in Turkey, had little to do and kept a clean sheet, one he’ll surely be happy about. Now, with just one more game left, Cape Verde sit two points above Cameroon, while Libya are still hanging around, three points behind.
Only the top side goes straight to the World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico next year.Cameroon will wrap things up at home to Angola on Monday, while Cape Verde hosts Eswatini a real date with destiny right there.
