Late in February 2026, Softfootball reported Barcelona’s intentions to secure Rashford’s services beyond his loan. Despite United’s firm stance on activating the full buy option clause without any discount, negotiations are ongoing as the two clubs seek to reach a consensus on the €30 million deal.

Barcelona’s interest is fueled by Rashford’s performances and professionalism, which have left a lasting impression during his time at the Camp Nou. United remain keen to ensure the transfer reflects the player’s value, making the outcome dependent on delicate negotiations.

Rasmus Højlund and Napoli have also been moving forward with plans for a permanent deal. The Denmark international, who joined the Italian champions on loan from Manchester United last summer, has a €50 million buy option. Napoli see Højlund as a central figure in their squad for the upcoming season and are ready to make him one of their key players.

Højlund originally joined Manchester United in August 2023 for an initial fee of £64 million and has made approximately 95 appearances across all competitions, scoring 26 goals.

His debut 2023/24 season was particularly notable, as he finished as United’s top scorer with 16 goals and helped the club secure the FA Cup, immediately establishing himself as a crucial component of the Red Devils’ attack.

United’s potential earnings from these two transfers underline the club’s strategic planning in managing squad turnover and player investment.

With both Højlund and Rashford likely to depart permanently, Manchester United could strengthen their financial position ahead of the 2026/27 season while allowing both players to continue their careers as key figures at their new clubs.

The Højlund and Rashford moves also reflect broader transfer trends across Europe, highlighting the growing financial significance of structured loan-to-buy deals and permanent transfers for clubs balancing sporting ambition with economic prudence.
