Manchester City climbed to the top of the Premier League for the first time since August after a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley FC at Turf Moor on Wednesday , April 22nd, 2026.
Right after the final whistle, Manchester City official X account captured the mood perfectly with a short but powerful message:

Softfootball gathered An early goal from Erling Haaland in the sixth minute brought City level on goal difference with Arsenal FC before pushing them ahead on goals scored, giving Pep Guardiola’s side the advantage in the title race.
However, the performance itself raised concerns. City failed to build on their early lead, repeatedly denied by the woodwork and an inspired display from Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka. The lack of ruthlessness frustrated Guardiola, as a bigger win could have created a stronger gap over Arsenal.
Man City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal last Sunday handed them the initiative in the title race going into their game in hand, and a meeting with Scott Parker’s strugglers offered the chance to build a goal difference advantage over the Gunners.
The defeat confirmed Burnley’s relegation, sealing an immediate return to the Championship, though their resistance may yet benefit Arsenal by keeping the goal difference tight.

The result sparked massive reactions online, with fans debating whether Arsenal could “bottle” the title again, despite Mikel Arteta insisting the race is “wide open.”
musa mocked arsenal yet again
MANCHESTER CITY IS THE LEADER OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE AHEAD OF ARSENAL
blue moon congratulated city and says they should have score more but fatigue was a problem
The job is done, but we should have scored 3 or 4 more… the players are very tired! For the first time since the opening day, City is LEADER!
tomiconcina says the table is real and city are back at the top
Yes, what you are seeing is REAL. MANCHESTER CITY RETURNS TO BEING LEADER OF THE PREMIER LEAGUE WITH THE SAME NUMBER OF MATCHES AS ARSENAL.
conrad called the performance a pathetic display
What a pathetic weak display of soccer . It’s a must win game & they are struggling to score goals because of the persistent walking around on the field & the back line passing amongst themselves for most of the game. These players are really disgusting. They’re so lazy & pathetic . If this was Arsenal they would’ve beaten this team by 4 goals already . Haalend was pathetic , he walks around & misses chance after chance. He doesn’t close down any players , he stands off & gives them time to play the ball. This match was a really disgraceful performance . It even gave me a headache . That Doku is a pathetic player always choosing to kick backwards then he walks after that .

kad says a win is a win
Not a pretty win but a win regardless
City now turn attention to the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton, while Arsenal face Newcastle in a crucial response.
