Manchester United are facing a complicated situation with Brazilian winger Antony, whose impressive loan spell at Real Betis has sparked interest but hasn’t translated into a straightforward transfer.
Betis’ sporting director, Manu Fajardo, confirmed the club is working hard to bring Antony back, but labeled the process a “very complex operation.”

Antony scored nine goals and provided five assists in 26 appearances last season and has publicly stated he doesn’t want to return to England.
The main obstacle lies in Man United’s financial expectations. The Red Devils need to recoup £32.5 million to avoid a loss under the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, a fee that’s well beyond Betis’ reach—especially after they failed to qualify for the 2025–26 Champions League.
While United would prefer a permanent deal, another loan spell may be the only realistic option. Fajardo hinted Betis would explore “creative” ways to secure the player without compromising the club’s finances, remaining hopeful as long as Antony hasn’t committed elsewhere.

Despite suggestions Antony could get a second chance at Old Trafford, new head coach Ruben Amorim has no plans to reintegrate him. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation but haven’t made a formal move.
Unless a buying club meets United’s valuation, a second loan stint in La Liga seems the most probable outcome for Antony’s immediate future.
