El Hadji Diouf backs Liverpool as best move for Osimhen

As the transfer race for Victor Osimhen heats up, former Senegalese and Liverpool forward El-Hadji Diouf has weighed in on where the Nigerian striker should land this summer—and his top pick is clear: Liverpool.

Osimhen, 26, remains one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards after a stellar season with Galatasaray, where he racked up 37 goals and 8 assists in 41 games.

With a €75 million release clause on his head, clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are circling ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.

Diouf praised Osimhen’s adaptability and track record across top leagues.

“He’s proven he can succeed everywhere—Italy, Turkey, and France. He’s ready for the Premier League,”

Diouf said.

However, the ex-forward raised red flags about two of Osimhen’s suitors.

“I am not convinced by Chelsea’s sporting project. As for Manchester United, they’re a big name, but they won’t be playing Champions League football next season—and Osimhen needs that.”

Notably, Diouf withheld criticism of Liverpool, subtly backing them as the most stable and ambitious destination. With Jurgen Klopp now replaced by Arne Slot and the Reds qualifying for the Champions League, the timing may be right for a marquee striker like Osimhen to lead a new era at Anfield.

Still, financial hurdles remain. Premier League clubs are reportedly cautious about Osimhen’s high wage demands, while a return to Galatasaray is on the table if Napoli’s valuation isn’t met.

Recall, Softfootball reports that Victor Osimhen has received a staggering new contract offer from Al Hilal, reportedly worth £34 million per year, as his future remains up in the air amid stalled Premier League interest.

Despite his success, Osimhen’s dream is to play in the Premier League. Both Manchester United and Arsenal have held talks with the striker with uncertainty hanging over a Premier League switch, Osimhen continues to attract attention elsewhere.
