Things are moving fast around Ademola Lookman as his future looks set for a possible change this January, Softfootball reported.
Today, January 29, 2026, officials from Fenerbahçe are in Italy holding direct talks with Atalanta over a potential deal for the Nigerian forward. At the same time, Fenerbahçe are also preparing to speak with Lookman’s camp to discuss personal terms.
The deal being discussed is believed to be a loan with an obligation to buy, and the total package could be worth around €40 million. At 28, Lookman is seen as a ready-made attacking boost, and Fenerbahçe are pushing hard to get the move done.

There is competition, though. Galatasaray have also kept a close eye on Lookman and remain interested, meaning the race for his signature could heat up quickly.
Lookman’s situation at Atalanta has not been smooth. Since the summer of 2025, his relationship with the club has been tense after he openly criticised them for breaking promises over a failed move to Inter Milan. That episode caused strong reactions from Nigerian fans, especially towards Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, coming shortly after Lookman’s impressive showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the talks on X handle, noting that Fenerbahçe are actively trying to make the deal happen and that discussions are ongoing on both club and player sides.
Direct club to club talks between Fenerbahçe and Atalanta set to take place in Italy for Ademola Lookman. Talks to follow also on player side over personal terms; Fenerbahçe are trying.
Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has made it clear the club won’t let Lookman go cheaply in January. Still, with his contract running until 2027, Atalanta know a decision on his future cannot be delayed forever.
For now, it’s a waiting game but one that could soon see Ademola Lookman starting a new chapter away from Bergamo.
