Ademola Lookman, William Troost-Ekong, Paul Onuachu and Asisat Oshoala have all been nominated for The Best FIFA Awards 2024, giving Nigeria a strong presence across several categories at this year’s ceremony.
Softfootball understands that FIFA confirmed the nominees on Friday, with the Nigerian quartet set to compete against some of the biggest names in world football across their respective categories.
Lookman features in the 22-man shortlist for The Best FIFA Men’s 11 in the attackers category, lining up alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinicius Junior and Erling Haaland.
Troost-Ekong is similarly nominated in the defenders category among 21 others, including Gabriel Magalhaes and Alphonso Davies.

Onuachu is in contention for the Puskas Award, with his stunning goal against Konyaspor during his loan spell at Trabzonspor last season making the shortlist.
Oshoala, now playing for Bay FC in the NWSL, has been nominated for the FIFA Marta Award, competing against ten other nominees. The Best FIFA Football Awards 2024 ceremony is scheduled to take place in January 2025.
