Ademola Lookman is back on the training pitch at Atalanta, easing fears over a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a minor injury on international duty last week during a demanding run of AFCON qualifying fixtures for Nigeria.

Softfootball understands the Nigerian winger was involved in a light session at the club’s training centre on Wednesday, having missed Nigeria’s clash with Rwanda on Monday as a precaution after first feeling the knock during the Super Eagles’ qualifier against Benin Republic in Abidjan the previous Thursday.

His early return puts him firmly in contention to face Parma at the Stadio Ennio Tardini on Saturday; a welcome boost for manager Gian Piero Gasperini given the outstanding form Lookman has shown throughout the campaign.

The 27-year-old has been one of Atalanta’s standout performers this season, contributing eight goals and five assists in 14 appearances across all competitions, numbers that place him among the most productive wide players in Serie A.

With form like that, Atalanta will be eager to have their most dangerous attacking outlet back involved as soon as he’s cleared to play, particularly with a congested fixture schedule still ahead.
