Former Tottenham Hotspur and England goalkeeper Joe Hart has credited Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers with transforming his understanding of modern goalkeeping, particularly when it comes to playing out from the back, softfootball reports.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Hart said both managers played a significant role in improving his confidence and decision-making during his time at Celtic.
Reflecting on his career, Hart compared their coaching methods with those of previous managers David Moyes, Sean Dyche and Jose Mourinho, whom he described as outstanding coaches who emphasized discipline, hard work and consistent performances.
However, Hart admitted that working under Postecoglou and Rodgers introduced him to a completely different tactical approach.
According to the former Manchester City goalkeeper, Postecoglou completely changed his perspective on building play from the back, helping him understand that it is not about showing off technical skills but about creating attacking opportunities.
Hart explained that he learned the importance of positioning, patience and reading the press before making the right decision. He said standing calmly on the ball, ensuring his centre-backs and defensive midfielder were in the correct positions, and recognizing when to bypass the press with a measured long pass became key aspects of his game.
He added that the tactical clarity provided by Postecoglou and later reinforced by Rodgers gave him a new way of thinking about football.
Hart believes those experiences have made him a much more knowledgeable student of the game, admitting he would have struggled to discuss the tactical side of playing out from the back just a few years ago.
The retired goalkeeper said he feels fortunate to have worked under both managers, describing the experience as one that significantly broadened his football understanding.
