Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has opened up about his lively upbringing, describing himself as an energetic weird child.
Speaking on the Fulham Fix Podcast, the Super Eagles star admitted that his parents often worried about his boundless energy. He said:
My parents said I could run before I started walking. They told me I’d sit down, and in a split second, I’d sprint around the flat and they were thinking this baby is on crack.
Iwobi recalled how his childhood enthusiasm manifested in playful destruction. He noted:
When I was a kid, I was very excited, used to run around, slide tackle balloons, kick chairs, kick anything in sight, so, I was just an energetic weird child.
Softfootball gathered that this early energy eventually found its proper outlet on the football pitch, leading to a successful professional career.
The Nigerian international also shared insights into his relationship with his father, who remains his biggest supporter. Iwobi mentioned that his dad is always ready for action, often wearing training kits or Iwobi’s jersey at home. He added:
You should see my dad, in the house, he’s always wearing a training kit or my jersey, always ready to go, but sometimes it’s embarrassing. If we go out, he’s wearing a jersey with the big Iwobi at the back and I tell him to chill, but he’s just proud.
While his father understands the game, having played in Nigeria like his uncle Jay-Jay Okocha, he keeps his feedback simple.
