Iniesta Yet to Agree Technical Director Role With Morocco Federation

Former Barcelona legend Andrés Iniesta has not yet reached an agreement with the Moroccan Football Federation regarding a proposed technical director role, despite recent reports suggesting a deal had already been completed.

Sources close to the situation indicate that only preliminary discussions have taken place and no formal contract has been signed as updated by Fabrizio Romano on his official X account.

Romano reported:

Despite reports, nothing signed or official yet between Andrés Iniesta and Morocco to become the new technical director. Talks are taking place, Moroccan Federation want Iniesta as director but not a done deal yet. Decision up to Andrés.

The federation is keen to benefit from the Spaniard’s vast experience and tactical knowledge after the country’s impressive progress in international football in recent years, including their historic run to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The 41-year-old retired from professional football in 2024 after concluding his playing career with Emirates Club in the United Arab Emirates. Before that, he spent several successful seasons with Vissel Kobe in Japan following his legendary spell at Barcelona.

During his time with Barcelona, Iniesta won numerous trophies, including multiple La Liga titles and several UEFA Champions League crowns. On the international stage, he secured a permanent place in football history after scoring the winning goal for Spain national football team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Final against the Netherlands.

His contributions to the game were recognised again in December 2025 when he received the career award at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, celebrating his influence, professionalism and lasting impact on world football.
