Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta believes Viktor Gyökeres is still adapting to the premier league and scoring goals will unlock his confidence, Softfootball reports.

The Sweden international has not scored for the Gunners for six weeks since he last scored against Burnley. He again fired blanks in midweek as Arsenal hammered Club Brugge 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League Match-Day 6.

During an interview that was shared by football expert, Fabrizio Romano via his official X handle, Arteta defended his striker without any hesitations. He said:

It took him a while at the beginning because it’s a different league, different demands, had no precision. And now he’s just starting to get, again, some momentum. The goals will come and we’re going to be very pleased with him.

Viktor Gyökeres made a huge money move to Arsenal in the summer but the transfer was heavily marred by transfer saga that meant the striker didn’t have any preseason. He refused to rejoin Sporting Lisbon for preseason camp and when the deal finally went through, it was already close to the start of the season.

Former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjær hailed Gyökeres as ‘Fox in the Box’ after Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in a UCL match in October.

But the big Swede hasn’t lived up to that hype ever since and he is struggling for form. He will hope to get a goal when Arsenal host Wolves in the premier league this weekend.
