According to Fabrizio Romano on his official X handle, the City boss made the comments during his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s EFL Cup semi-final second leg, where City will be aiming to book their place in the final. Guardiola said:

I’m a little bit sad and upset because in net spend in the last five years we are seventh in the Premier League.”These are the facts, not opinions.

Despite the comments, Manchester City have not stood still in the current winter transfer window. The club moved decisively to strengthen the squad, completing the £75m signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, while also bringing in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi for a fee believed to be around €30m.

Those additions underline City’s intent to maintain their competitive edge as they continue their push for silverware on multiple fronts, with Guardiola keen to ensure his side remain capable of challenging for the Premier League title and competing at the very highest level in domestic and European football.
