Former Nigeria national football team coach Gernot Rohr has revealed how Michael Olise should have been playing for Nigeria.
Rohr stated:
“Michael Olise should have been playing for Nigeria by now. I did everything possible to bring him in, but he rejected my invitation to join the Super Eagles in 2019.”
Rohr made the revelation as Olise continues his rise in European football and is now being mentioned among Ballon d’Or contenders.
During his time as Super Eagles head coach, Rohr closely monitored Olise between 2019 and 2020 while the talented midfielder was still developing at Reading FC in the English Championship.
The German tactician believed Olise was destined to represent one of Europe’s biggest football nations.
It is worth noting that Olise was later placed on Nigeria’s standby list ahead of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho.
