Former Besiktas defender Selim Soydan has claimed that Mauro Icardi is deeply envious of Victor Osimhen’s rapid success at Galatasaray.
Since joining the Turkish giants from Napoli this summer, the Super Eagles striker has made seven appearances, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
In contrast, Icardi has also played seven times but has only managed four goals. Softfootball learned that speaking to a local sports program, Soydan stated that the Argentine forward never expected Osimhen to excel so quickly at the club. He noted that the fans have fully embraced the Nigerian star, which goes beyond just football.
Soydan explained that a footballer is naturally jealous of another footballer, and a star is jealous of another star, making it a situation an athlete struggles to tolerate. He argued that if both players had started together for a few more games, Osimhen would have completely overshadowed Icardi.
Soydan also suggested that Icardi could not focus properly on the pitch because he recently separated from his wife, adding that Osimhen’s goals will soon make everyone forget Icardi’s previous efforts on the field entirely.
