Today, October 30, 2025, would’ve been Diego Armando Maradona’s 65th birthday, and somehow, it still feels like he never really left. The man from Villa Fiorito, who kicked around an old ball on dusty streets before the world knew his name, remains one of football’s most emotional, imperfect, and unforgettable stories.
Softfootball reports that Maradona started shining early with Argentinos Juniors, a skinny teenager doing ridiculous things with the ball that didn’t seem possible. He later moved to Boca Juniors and gave them a league title before crossing over to Europe.
Barcelona got a taste of his magic, but it was at Napoli that Diego became something beyond football, a saviour, almost a god. Two Serie A titles, one UEFA Cup, and millions of fans who still paint his face on walls like a saint, even Kevin de Bruyne, a Legend of the game in his own right was still starstruck when Napoli handed him the no 10 jersey after joining from Manchester City.

And then came Mexico ’86. That World Cup was pure Maradona controversy, brilliance, madness all wrapped into one. The “Hand of God” made people furious, and then, a few minutes later, he dribbled half of England to score what FIFA later called “the Goal of the Century”. Both goals summed him up perfectly: flawed, genius, and absolutely human.

Argentina posted a tribute video in honour of the iconic number 10, depicting the player’s legacy in a post made via the federation’s official X account.
